For the brand Reiscare, it was founded by Nurture Care Co. Ltd. The origins of Nurture Care can be traced back to its parent company, Cho Heng Rice Vermicelli Factory Co. Ltd. that was established more than 75 years ago in Thailand. With it’s humble beginnings of manufacturing rice starch based products such as glutinous rice flour, rice flour and rice vermicelli, Cho Heng has now branched out into other industries such as cosmetics and packaged food.
Reiscare was the brainchild of Dr Varatus Vongsurakrai who together with Associate Professor Dr Saiyavit Voravinit conducted extensive research and development on developing a rice based baby powder. Twelve years ago, it won awards from the National Research Council of Thailand and Brussels Eureka 2000 for its innovative use of rice starch as filler to directly compress medicine pills. This practice also won the National Innovation Agency (NIA) award in 2005. The company built on this success, with the support of NIA, to continue its research into chemically modified rice starch for cosmetic and dermatological powder.
In recognition of their efforts, Reiscare was awarded as one of the Top 10 Innovative Business for the year 2006 and Rice Innovation Awards in the year 2007. Individually, Dr Varatus was awarded with The Best Innovation Worthy of Economic Value in 2005 while Dr Saiyavit was awarded an Outstanding Technologist in 2006.
Since it’s introduction, Reiscare has gradually made inroads into the local cosmetics market and awareness of the Reiscare brand has gone up markedly. Reiscare products is now available in major hypermarkets and gourmet market outlets such as Tesco Lotus,Tops,7 Catalog and Home Fresh Mart in Thailand.
